The UU Women’s Federation met virtually on September 19 and Harriet Smith shared insights from a recent book by historian Tiya Miles - All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley's Sack, a Black Family Keepsake (Random House, 2021). A portion of the presentation was photos of family heirlooms and treasured keepsakes from women in Harriet’s family, which sparked reflections and sharing from those in attendance about family history passed down through fabric arts and traditions with which they are associated.
In other news, the UUFBV is preparing for the annual Camp Allen retreat, this year for the first time to be held in October. It promises to be a beautiful retreat, full of our own traditions and the making of new memories. There are spaces available for others to join us. The dates are October 8-10, and fully vaccinated women can attend for one night or two, or even for the day on Saturday. Contact Nancy Deer (admin@brazos-uu.org) and she will make sure connections are made for more information. Scholarships are available to offset costs if needed.
Annual Membership Dues of $10 are now being accepted to support the ongoing activities of UU Women's Federation. Kathy Wheeler, UUWF Treasurer, is the contact for dues and donations.
