UU Women’s Federation

September 20, 2020 Meeting at 12:00 noon

In preparation for the program portion of the monthly UUWF meeting, we advise a little advance work. All are welcome to attend – you do not have to be a UUWF member! All you need is an interest in social and racial justice issues and a willingness to read in advance!.

  1. Read and think about White Fragility -Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin Diangelo

  2. Recall and job down your own first interactions with people of color to share in 3 minutes. We’ve grown up in different places, so are interactions are likely varied.

  3. Read criticism by linguist John McWhorter who has written extensively for Atlantic Magazine – several options are recommended:

    1. Short NPR interview with Linguist John McWhorter

    2. All stories/interviews by John McWhorter (easily found via Google search)

    3. The Dehumanizing Condescension of White Fragilty” is particularly recommended

4. Write down your comments and viewpoints to share in 3-5 minutes.

5. Open Discussion

Karen Bachman and Nancy Granovsky, UUWF Program Co-chairs.
