Saturday, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Haiti — about 80 miles west of Port-au-Prince, the capital — causing widespread destruction. As of now, more than 1,400 people have died and thousands have been injured, caught under rubble and collapsed buildings, with hospitals being overwhelmed.
UUSC is in contact with our long-term partners in the region to assess the crisis and respond to the most urgent needs.
As the people of Haiti search for survivors, the country is also bracing for Tropical Storm Grace headed its way. It will bring heavy rains and high winds, just as many are seeking shelter after their homes have been destroyed by the quake.
We are thankful for your quick response to provide relief to the people of Haiti and ensure UUSC is positioned to respond to ongoing crises.
