As I sit writing this article, the wind has kicked up and the temperature has dropped. I know we are all feeling a bit down about UUCBV’s move to online programming and worship due to the spike in Covid numbers in town. However, this cold weather has got me thinking that staying inside and remaining safe AND warm is the best thing right now. Our February is still packed with ways we can remain connected to one another!
On the younger UU front, we have two offerings for the month. First, our monthly CartUUns class will meet on February 9 at 5 PM. We will be watching “Martha and Skits” which is technically a PBS Kids production, rather than Pixar, but I think it will be a great time. We will watch the short video, discuss how we can understand “dog talk,” and brainstorm how we can help animals around us. Please RSVP to Allison for the Zoom link. The second is for our Youth Group. We will meet on Feb. 18 at 5:30. We will explore the concepts of “good” and “bad” and determine where these value judgments come from and what they mean in relation to our first UU principle. What do good and evil really mean in UU contexts where personal theologies and beliefs can be quite different. RSVP to Allison for the Zoom link. As always, don’t forget to check out UUCBV’s RE Newsletter, The Spark. This month’s theme is “Power.”
For adult RE, we have three offerings for the month. Newer members and those interested in membership are enthusiastically invited to our membership class on February 5 at 1-3 PM. Come ask any questions you have about being a UU or what membership means at UUCBV. The second is our UU Common read book group that will meet every other Wednesday at 7:30 PM starting February 2. The book is called Defund Fear: Safety Without Policing, Prisons, and Punishment by Zach Norris. Grab a copy and Zoom with us for some great conversation! Finally, the Lunch & Learn series begins in February. Each Thursday at 12 pm, join the Church Zoom to hear from speakers and discuss with each other about a wide variety of topics. If for some reason there is not a speaker, the Lunch & Learn time will be an open lunch with the minister.
For all ages, we have our weekly All Ages RE before service at 10 AM each Sunday on the Church Zoom. The schedule can be found below. We will also have an open Game Day at 1 PM on February 27. Join us on the Church Zoom for some fun and fellowship!
