Guest Speaker: Grace Stanford: AVID, ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION
Please join us as we welcome guest speaker and long time UUWF friend, Grace Stanford. Grace teaches AVID Elective Classes (10th, 11th, 12th grades) and serves as the AVID Campus Coordinator at A & M Consolidated High School and will be sharing her involvement with the program. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a nonprofit that changes lives by helping schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach. AVID trains 70,000 educators annually to close the opportunity gap, so they can prepare all students for college, careers, and life. Regardless of their life circumstances, AVID students overcome obstacles and achieve success. They graduate and attend college at higher rates, but more importantly, they can think critically, collaborate, and set high expectations to confidently conquer the challenges that await them. In 47 states across the U.S., K–16 educators are driving student success through engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning environments. Grace has a daughter, Emma, who will soon be 17 and a licensed driver (!!!). Emma is also a Junior at Consol. All are welcome. Please bring a dish to share.
