Happy March! It is getting warmer outside (well, sometimes) and hints of spring are creeping in! This wonderful weather is just in time for our in-person reconnection. UUCBV is going back to meeting in person and I can’t wait to see all of you! Just as a reminder, during Sunday Service, the children and youth who choose to go to Religious Education, will exit with me after the Time for All Ages. If the weather is nice, we will head out to the covered pavilion behind the Neal Recreation Center. Parents are more than welcome to join us in RE and we should have extra childcare help for the little ones during March. If you have any questions at all, please let me know. Remember, each child who attends RE must have a registration form on file with me. I have copies available for anyone who needs it. I know we have all been wanting to be in person, so I am hoping you are as excited as I am!
In addition to weekly children’s RE, we have two additional offerings for the month. First, our monthly CartUUns class will meet on March 9 at 5 PM. We will be watching “Burrow” which is a newer Pixar short about asking for help. We will watch the short video, play collaborative games, and create our own bunny burrows. We will meet at the Fun for All Playground at Stephen Beachy Central Park. The second is for our Youth Group. We will meet on March 25 at 5:30. Our Youth Group expressed interest in art projects and we will be painting pottery from U Paint-It! There is some prep needed for this including picking pottery pieces and glaze colors, so please Email Allison before March 15 to participate. I am going to get an extra charger to create our own “Potluck Plate” so come join in the fun!
As always, don’t forget to check out UUCBV’s RE Newsletter, The Spark. This month’s theme is “Balance.” This newsletter has online resources for children, youth, and families.
For adult RE, we have three offerings for the month. Newer members and those interested in membership are enthusiastically invited to our membership class on March 26 from 12-2 PM. Come ask any questions you have about being a UU or what membership means at UUCBV. The class is in person at the Neal Rec Center. Childcare and lunch provided.
On March 27, we will be having a documentary viewing and discussion. In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31, we will watch Pay It No Mind based on the life and activism of Marsha P. Johnson. After the documentary, we will have a discussion. This is a hybrid event. Contact Allison for access to the documentary and join us on Zoom for the discussion if you cannot attend in person.
Our UU Common read book group continues to meet every other Wednesday at 7:30 PM. For the planners in the congregation, our next book read will begin in April. We will read The Stonewall Generation: LGBT Elders on Sex, Activism, and Aging by Jane Fleishman. Please let me know if you need help accessing/purchasing a book.
Finally, the Lunch & Learn series continues! Each Thursday at noon, join the Church Zoom to hear from speakers and discuss with each other a wide variety of topics. March speakers include Sara Ptomey of the League of Women Voters of the Brazos Valley and Dan Kiniry, Executive Director of Tiny Hope Village.
Special Note: If you are interested in aiding in the planning of our Easter Egg-stravaganza, please let me know. We are meeting in early March to get hopping ;)
