Green Tip of the Week

Writer's picture: Tech & Site AdminTech & Site Admin

Planning ahead? Consider a green burial. It is an environmentally sustainable practice where the body is returned to the earth in a simple shroud or biodegradable casket and allowed to decompose naturally and be recycled into new life. For example, Eloise Woods Community Natural Burial Park in Cedar Creek (between Bastrop and San Marcos) is a green cemetery in our part of Texas.

This is a good step, but it takes some prior planning. For example, for the Forensic Anthropology Center at San Marcos you need to register ahead and have witnesses, and the body must be prepared by a funeral home and on the ground within a short period of time. FYI, 512--245-1900.

You probably need to purchase your burial plot in advance. The funeral home, such as Austin Natural Funerals, will take care of the rest. All you need to do is contact the funeral home within a few hours after the death just like you would for any other burial/cremation arrangements.
