"... decades of police reform efforts have proved that
the Minneapolis Police Department cannot be reformed,
and will never be accountable for its actions."
The city will
"... begin the process of ending the Minneapolis Police Department."
The announcement came nearly two weeks after George Floyd, an unarmed black man, died after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee into Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has said that the police department must make changes, although he does not support eliminating it. https://www.startribune.com/mpls-council-majority-backs-dismantling-police-department/571088302/
