It has been a while since I’ve written a Religious Education article for the Lat. I am so excited to be back to it. For those who do not know me, my name is Allison Faber and I will be directing our Religious Education programming for the coming year. My spouse and I moved to Bryan with our two boys, Liam (12) and Reid (9), in 2015. It was shortly afterward that I found UUCBV on Facebook and we joined the church soon after Rev. Aaron Stockwell arrived at our church. Pretty soon afterward, I joined the RE committee and began learning about UU religious education from our former DRE, Vicki Carter. I am forever grateful to her for her patience with me as I learned (well, kind of) UU acronyms! Fast forward to now and I am incredibly excited to work toward strengthening our RE programming.
Vital to this process of implementing new programs or enriching our existing programs is a robust RE Committee. The committee will work this fall toward writing an RE Mission and Vision statement along with brainstorming goals and strategies to fully engage with our children, youth, and adults. I am dedicated to creating opportunities for building community and service opportunities in addition to providing a vibrant learning atmosphere that will feed our minds and spirits. I will be working with the already-existing RE Committee, but if you would like to join the RE Committee, please email me at DRE@brazos-uu.org.
For August, RE will focus on our theme for the month: Communion. We will be focusing on community, friendship, and connection. Our lessons highlight our unique selves, but also how we can combine our strengths to create a vibrant community.
8/1: Who Are We?: Allison introduces herself and we play fun get to know you games
8/8: Our Favorite Animals: In honor of our pet blessing ceremony, we create a “Super Animal” that combines elements from our favorite animals
8/15: What Makes You, You?: We talk about the most unique things about ourselves and celebrate our differences!
8/22: Making Meaning Out of Stars: John talks about ancient peoples and how they made meaning from the sky. What does the sky mean to us? Look for awesome photos from Chaco Canyon!
8/29: The Next Right Thing: We discuss lessons from Frozen II (Dress Up Optional)
Sounds Great!
