With 2020 now behind us, 2021 will be a historic year for our church community as the promise of Our New Church building reaches fruition. The Building Fund Team is optimistic that with your help, we will meet a capital campaign goal of $300,000.
As you may recall, the significant rise in the cost of building materials during the pandemic forced the Sacred Space Team to work closely with our architect to modify our building plans. On November 15th, the congregation approved proceeding with building construction costs not to exceed $2,000,000 (which is available in the building construction investment account). This amount was recommended because the latest bid is $1,950,000. Capital campaign funds will allow for increased construction costs, unanticipated overruns, completion of items not in the contract, and purchase of items and services that will be needed to “move into” our new church home.
To help meet increased costs, the Board approved the $300,000 goal for the Building Fund Capital Campaign. Immediately, several members responded with both pledges and actual donations. We are indebted to Ken and Kathi Appelt who have pledged matched funds up to the $100,000 level.
All members and friends of the church will be receiving an invitation to participate in the Building Fund Capital Campaign, along with specific details. Our New Church will have its own web page at https://www.brazos-uu.org with information from both the Building Fund Capital Campaign Team and the Sacred Space Team.
We are excited about the future and hope that we all consider the legacy each of us can leave for our church community and the larger BCS community as we build Our New Church.
